It has never been forgotten. I grew up in Pine Point and went to OLSH. I was 15 when Danny died and though I didn't know him, it hit close to home. I too stopped going to church. Between Father Shanley and Lavigne I couldn't face accepting communion from the hands of any priest. I live in Chicopee now and every day I drive by the spot Danny was killed. It's not forgotten and there are a lot of us still hoping for justice someday. It would have forced a conversation on clergy sex abuse and the practice of shipping the offending priests to other parishes when they were caught. And there is no doubt that victims from the Boston area (victims of Father Shanley and others) would have come forward.

The Boston area clergy sex abuse of the early 2000s spread throughout the world as victims were no longer afraid to speak out. This could have happened on some scale in the early 1970s, starting in Springfield. It boggles the mind to consider how this problem could have been confronted, and precautions put in place, before so many lives were ruined because of what happened in the '70s, '80s, '90s, and beyond during "the silent treatment."

Yes, it would have taken a murder, but so much anguish could have been avoided.Hell's Acresnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8436846479279507747.post-8374428442181204882017-05-04T10:26:29.697-04:002017-05-04T10:26:29.697-04:00I think Lavine wouldn't go down alone and thre...I think Lavine wouldn't go down alone and threatened to bring his superiors down with him. By the way, Fitzgibbon considered this, according to Carl Sr.

Also, if Lavigne were on foot, he could have crossed the street and cut through the East Side Woods (Delta Hills Conservation Area) straight to the rectory. A short hike. Then again, it was Friday night, and there was probably a party going on in the East Side woods! Whoops, forgot that it had rained earlier in the night. Have you been through the statements at bishop accountability.org? There is a wealth of info on this case. Under this scenario, Lavigne knew the assailant probably bled, which explains why the DNA tests failed to link the priest to the scene.

The problem is, the "real" murderer, under questioning, would then unveil Lavigne's alleged involvement in the sex ring. It would have possibly led to sex charges and defrocking, which is better than a murder conviction. It still leads to charges of being an accomplice if Lavigne was there. I guess the priest could claim he tried to stop the assault.

So much to consider. I doubt we'll ever know the truth.Hell's Acresnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8436846479279507747.post-68879746702534200512017-05-03T21:00:38.363-04:002017-05-03T21:00:38.363-04:00This might explain why Lavine was so self-incrimin...This might explain why Lavine was so self-incriminating at the scene of the murder by asking, "if a rock was used would the blood wash off." Perhaps he was quietly trying to provide clues for the detectives. I don't doubt that Lavine is a sick pedophile but I do doubt him as the murder(probably accomplis). My opinion is that Danny was comfortable enough with Lavine, but it was when he was introduced to other's in the ring that he began to rebel. This might also explain why Lavine was able to identify Danny's body at the morgue and preside at his funeral. FromTheAcresnoreply@blogger.com
